Defying Gravity on Booger Mountain Road

A Real-life Ghost Story in the Backwoods of Georgia

Do you believe in ghosts and wandering spirits, or do you think they’re just made-up stories? I want to share one of my ghost experiences, and you can decide for yourself whether to believe it or not.

The Night it All Started

One weekend, my three friends and I went to North Georgia for a fun trip to Six Flags. We stayed the night at my friend's dad's house, where I first heard about Booger Mountain Road in Forsyth County.

The story goes that a school bus crashed on the hill, taking the lives of several children. Since then, it’s said that those children push cars up the hill if you stop at the bottom, trying to keep others from having the same fate.

Naturally, we were curious and wanted to see if the story was true. We were just 14 years old and excited for an adventure, so my friend's dad agreed to take us there.

At the Foot of Booger Mountain Road

That night, we arrived at the bottom of Booger Mountain Road, our hearts racing with excitement and fear. The hill looked ordinary, just a dark road surrounded by trees.

My friend's dad parked the car and explained what we were about to try. “If we put the car in neutral at the bottom of the hill,” he said, “the kids’ ghosts will push us up.” We shared doubtful looks, but there was also a thrill in the air that made us wonder if something strange might happen.

With nervous excitement, we stopped at the bottom of the hill. My friend's dad shifted the car into neutral, and suddenly, the atmosphere grew tense. To our surprise, the car started moving—not down the hill, but up.

We sat in shocked silence, eyes wide as we watched the road ahead. The car climbed steadily as if something invisible was pushing us. We tried to reason with ourselves: Was it the slope? Some trick? But it felt different—it felt strange.

Words escaped us. We each wore expressions of astonishment, unable to say what we were feeling. When we reached the top, silence filled the car. We all understood that something unusual had just happened.

On our way back, we stopped at Walmart. When we got out of the car, we noticed something odd on the back window—small handprints, ghostly and white against the glass. We stood frozen, unsure if my friend's dad was playing a trick on us or if there was some truth to the legend of Booger Mountain Road.

Believe it or not, the Mystery Remains

Since that night, I’ve learned that many places have similar stories, known as “Gravity Hill Stories” (READ MORE). Maybe it’s just another case of a clever illusion, but the memory sticks with me, like a whisper from the children who were lost.

Some things in life are hard to explain. Whether Booger Mountain Road is really haunted or just an illusion, the experience has left a mark on my memory.

Maybe it’s a story you need to experience yourself to decide what you believe. So next time you find yourself in Forsyth County, dare to stop by Booger Mountain Road—just be ready for whatever might push you up that hill.
